The Command Officer, or CO, is in charge of making sure everything runs
smoothly, everyone knows what they are doing and where they should be, and that
all blackmateria are recovered in a timely fashion.
The Executive Officer, or XO, is the second in command. His job is to assist
in whatever ways are possible and to make the job of the CO a bit easier. He
is responsible for assisting in the collection of the materia.
These two positions are in charge of making sure that all the platoons are
covered and balanced as best as possible.
CO and XO should not be out killing mobs unless there is a leak or a platoon
asks for your assistance. If you took the command, your goal is not to gather
medals and badges, but to lead the troops in taking the day.
Anyone can take CO or XO, from Private to General. Players who have never been
in a raid before are not expected to take command, but anyone else should be
ready to. There is no requirement for taking the position other than a
knowledge of the locations of the black materia mobs (See also: milit help
blackmateria).
Taking CO or XO is a good way to draw attention to yourself. If you do a good
job, higher ups will take notice and reward you accordingly.
If you are CO or XO in a raid, you should let someone else take command in the
next raid, unless no one else is available.
1. Players from 25-35 should be assigned to the Scout platoon, as they are the
goblin killers.
2. Don't assign generals to platoons. They'll fill in where they are needed
and help as asked, but they are not to be assigned at any time. Don't assign
wizards either, of course.
3. Don't ask for promotions. They'll be given as those who give them see fit
and asking for them will only hurt your chances of recieving.
4. Never ask for raids. What you're likely to get is more than you wanted.
Raids will be run when they will be run, no sooner, no later.
5. Using the Watch Tower is not required, but it can be useful both in and out
of raids. Use it during raids for locating stray lucavi, and use it before
raids to know whether to call a red alert.
6. Again, do not kill Lucavi troops in platoons unless that platoon asks for
your assistance or there is a breach.
7. If you are a lower level who took the positions, it is sometimes wise to ask
a higher level to assist you in some of the things you'll need to do, such as
defeating normal non-Lucavi enemies which block paths. You may also find it
helpful to ask for assistance when fighting the black materia monsters; they
are easiest when fought by multiple people who are close to the same level.
8. Check the platoon chokes regularly to make sure that they are constantly
manned by at least one person. In an attack raid, no choke should be left
empty for more than a few seconds except in an extreme emergency.
9. If at first you can locate no materia, but monsters are still coming strong,
it is best to make a second pass. Sometimes more black materia appear
mid-raid.
