Militia Overview

Location:

The militia headquarters are located s, e, n from center.

Basic Knowledge:

The purpose of the militia is to protect the livelihood and citizens of the
city of Elsendor from the invading Lucavi forces. If a Lucavi invasion is
imminent, a General or Field Marshal will issue a yellow alert. When the alert
is issued, the commanding officer roles must be filled and all players must
scramble to their positions.

When the yellow alert is called, two players must take the roles of CO
(Commanding Officer) and XO (Executive Officer). Any member of the militia
from Private to General can take these positions, and in fact, it is good for
ambitious members to take the helm. The CO and XO are responsible for
assigning the other players to platoons. There are four directional platoons
currently in use, all of which the Lucavi can attack from. Those platoons are
north, south, east, and west, and correspond to the various portals on the
edges of Elsendor leading to the different realms. Sometimes, the Lucavi
attack all platoons at once, while other times some platoons may be temporarily
"closed". You can check which platoons are open by typing "mwho". Each
platoon has several paths which the Lucavi can arrive on (see milit help
paths). The CO should assign each militia member to a platoon.

Should any one of the members be idle during a raid or otherwise unable to do
his or her duties, the other soldiers should fill in as best as possible and
alert the CO/XO to this.

Alert Status:

Red alert means that a raid is currently in progress. All members are required
to give the raid their FULL attention. A yellow alert will always be called
first to warn militia members of the impending raid. If, during a yellow
alert, you spot Lucavi enemies approaching Elsendor, change the alert status to
red!

Yellow alert is a state of vigilance in which the militia warms up or cools
down. If a general or wizard changes the alert status from green to yellow,
that means a raid is imminent. At this point, any two players should
immediately take CO and XO, and assign the other members to platoons. During a
raid, players should call a yellow alert when they can no longer see any active
Lucavi and suspect that the raid may be over. Each platoon must then be
scouted manually before the alert statys can be changed to green.

Green alert means that all enemies are confirmed to be dead. Elsendor is safe.
The alert status should be changed to green when all the paths have been
scouted clear and all platoons have confirmed that there are no more Lucavi.
This signifies the end of the raid. During green alert, players have no
militia responsibilities and may go about their normal routines.

Rules of Engagement:

There are some rules concerning the ways in which players may and may not
attack the enemy troops. These are outlined in the rules helpfile.

Channels:

There are 8 channels available to enlisted militia members. These are: mooc,
militia, platoon, peast, pwest, pnorth, psouth, and pscout. Platoon, pscout,
peast, pnorth, and pwest are only to be used during raids. Militia is reserved
strictly for RP uses and system messages. Mooc is the Out Of Character channel
that any non-raid, non-RP conversation takes place on.

Raid Types:

There are four different types of raids: attack raids, endurance raids, timed
raids, and threat raids. These each have their own helpfile. Attack raids are
considered normal, basic raids. In all raid types except threat raids, Lucavi
monsters will approach Elsendor via specific paths (see milit help paths).

Roles of Militia Members:

First and foremost, success or failure of a raid depends almost entirely on the
ability of the active militia members to act as a team and to take orders
quickly and efficiently. Each raid may have a different way to achieve
success, but all raids share a common goal: to protect Elsendor from assault by
Lucavi forces.

If a lull in combat occurs and you are in possession of a crystal ball, which
can be purchased at the militia store, you are urged to use it. This will
check and see if there are any Lucavi still in your platoon. The crystal ball
can be used by typing 'peer renegade'. Note that Crystal Balls do not always
work, and you will need to use it multiple times.

The scout platoon, the platoon that the CO and XO are assigned to, has the job
of scouting out all the materia mobs in search of the black materia (see milit
help blackmateria), as well as scouting any other special threats that appear.
The scout platoon is also responsible for alerting the other platoons to
anything unusual that needs to be handled by those platoons, whether that is a
large wave of mobs or a unique threat.

You may, at any time, be reassigned if the CO or XO wishes. If this does
happen and your current platoon will not suffer greatly from your loss, you are
to report ASAP to your new platoon.

At intervals throughout the raid, the CO and XO will ask for a status report,
at which point, you are to tell them how your platoon is faring. If you are
entrenched in combat, you report that. If all seems clear, report that. Use
your judgement and your crystal ball. If your platoon's status changes in a
meaningful way, report it even if you are not asked to.

When the CO suspects that no enemies remain, he or she should change the alert
status from red to yellow. Member should manually scout all the paths and all
the potential materia locations to make sure there are no enemies left. If any
militia mobs are sighted during a yellow alert, immediately call a red alert
again. If the coast is clear, call a green alert.

Post Raid Operations:

Once the raid has ended, you are to deposit all badges and medals in the
militia depository, which is inside the militia headquarters in Elsendor.

After the raid has concluded, everyone who participated will recieve one of
three types of battle ribbon based on how well the raid went.

1. Red Ribbon: Excellent performance, no leaks, no damage to town.

2. Green Ribbon: Good work, minimal damage to town.

3. Black Ribbon: Failure, town was badly damaged by lucavi forces.

Individual awards are given out to those members who went above and beyond the
call of duty during a raid. Those are also given post-raid.

After a raid you should give any recommendations for awards to the General or
wizard who gave out the ribbon for the raid (privately). If you are the CO/XO,
or the highest-ranked member on a platoon that has multiple members, you are
expected to tell the General/FM about the performance of your comrades.
However, anyone at all can give recommendations, not just those people. A good
recommendation is something like, "<Player> did an excellent job covering
breaches," or, "<Player> assisted in killing mobs that I could not handle."

Reprimands are a form of punishment. They are to alert you that you did
something that was out of line. You will usually recieve a warning before a
reprimand is issued, but if failure to exhibit appropriate action continues one
will be issued. If a player has any reprimands, they will not be able to
receive individual awards after raids. Acquiring multiple reprimands will
eventually result in a demotion.

Typing 'raidstats' will allow you to see what happened in the previous raid,
such as how many citizens were killed and how many buildings damaged.

Now that you have a general knowledge of the procedure of the militia, you
should continue on to read the other helpfiles and any questions can be asked
on mooc.
